Portfolio Task 6

The single global currency

It is clear to me that the idea of a single global currency is an excellent ideal to work towards. There can be no doubt that trade and travel would be vastly easier. On the other hand I believe that it would cause problems today.

The benefits of a single currency can be seen with the use in Europe of the Euro. Whenever you are travelling between countries using the Euro, the problems of currency changing and exchange rates are history. Similarly business between countries using the Euros is so much easier and there is no more worrying about exchange rate risks and pricing. Everyone‛s money is the same. The same thing is true with the US dollar. Most countries do not use the US dollar but it is accepted in many places. There are many countries that you can travel to and just take US dollars to use.

At present though a global currency would be impossible. Firstly most countries would not accept the idea. Secondly all countries are in different economic states. Some are economically very strong and some are in a state of collapse with inflation ruining the economy. Such countries could not be brought into a world currency as it would cause massive financial instability worldwide. So it is clear that a global currency would indeed cause some serious problems.

So, in conclusion I see a global currency as a future ideal but it will not happen in my lifetime. It would make trade and travel much easier but the problems it would cause nowadays would be insurmountable.

Overseas residents visiting Australia annual from 1975 to 2005

The given line graph illustrates information on the number of overseas visitors travelling to Australia in millions of people. Overall, one notable trend seems to be that Australia has steadily become more popular as a destination spot. For example, there were 20 million more visitors to Australia in 2005 than in 1975. That's a jump from 10 million to 30 million in 20 years.

The second table gives statistics showing the countries whose residents went to Australia between 1975 and 2005. In both years, the largest number of visitors came from Japan, followed by South Korea and Europe. Britain, the United States and China also had many people traveling to Australia in these years. In fact, the number of people visiting Australia grew in every one of these countries. For example, in 2005, 12 million people went there from Japan compared with only 3.2 million in 1975.

In conclusion, we can see from the line graph a big change from 1975 to 2005; there was an increase of more than 20 million visitors. Also, the statistics table reports the highest visitors are from Japan and the lowest China.

Portfolio Task 4

Competition

Teaching children using correct ways is very important for their future life. Some parents and teachers think that it is more important to show kids how to fight for their place in life. Another opinion is that the most important skill is to be able to work together with other people. I will discuss these two opinions.

Competition makes people work harder to reach their goals. If there is a limited number of places in university, only the best students will get those places. For example, you can only get into some universities if your GPA score is not less than 3.5 over 4.0. So, competition is a good thing when it is used for good reasons.

Cooperating is necessary for people in some situations. When you need to do some complicated job fast, it is important to have a good command of skilled people
who are used to doing that kind of job together. For example, if you have to develop a big software project, you need to have a group of developers with good professional and team skills .Teaching children to be a part of the team will help them to get skills for their future work.

In conclusion, it is very important for children to become team players. It is also important for them to be able to win. So, both of those skills are important in different situations. I think that to be part of the team is more important than competition skills, because you need to work with other people more often than to compete with them, unless you are a professional.

Portfolio Task 3

Balanced diet

Many people nowadays are looking for health and other don’t care about health. Also, everyone looks healthier if they diet; most doctors agree with that. I have to say I agree with that.

First of all, it is abundantly clear, to function property, the human body needs all sorts of proteins, vitamins as well as fats. It requires them so that each organ can produce the require a energy. This is only possible with balanced meals and diet. Absence of anyone of food supplement, for a long period of time, can cause serious damage to the body which leads to ill-health and sickness. Perhaps, it is immediately apparent that due to constant changing lifestyle. There is a great attention require toward food intake. The mind can get a sense of satisfaction only after having appropriate food. This can produce a lot of energy, which is a must in today’s hectic routine.

I used to consume a lot of conversation food as well as junk food. I wasn’t able to concentrate on my work as my body was always aching. I faced many diseases before dieting; Then, I spent money for a diet with a doctor to transform my lifestyle and get healthy. That is the story of my diet and I have some experience in that, and I got healthy step by step.

In conclusion, I think that diet is critical to our physical wellbeing. There are many other factors to keep our body out of sickness. Therefore, we should utilize the synergy of all these factors to lead a healthy life and have a better lifestyle.

Using mobile phones while driving
Mobile phones are used all over the world. Some people think the mobile phone shall be used everywhere and always. But others don’t agree with that idea. However, I will argue in the following paragraphs why mobile phones are used when they drive.

Some people use mobile phones when they drive because they sometimes have an emergency call or communication. The next thing is that they have some problem at home or at work for which they need a phone to communicate. Another thing is perhaps they won’t have anything do but just play on their mobile phone. Also, some people chat with their friends and cause an accident.

On the other hand, there are many points against using phones when we drive and using mobile phones can cause accidents. Also, we can’t focus when we use our mobiles while we are driving. A second point, is when looking at the mobile phone, one can’t see the road, so maybe he will cause an accident. In additional, you can tell someone if you will be late for a meeting; before you drive car stop somewhere sale and talk on your mobile phone.

In summary, although there are arguments for and against, I think we can’t use mobile swhen we are driving because 80% of what happens is accident so we can save our life and other people's life; also, we can reach our destination alive.

Reasons for studying and employer support in the UK

The bar charts compare students of different ages in terms of why they are studying and whether they are supported by an employer.

It is clear that the proportion of students who study for career purposes is far higher among the younger age groups, while the oldest students are more likely to study for interest. Employer support is more commonly given to younger students.

Plus, around 80% of students aged under 26 study to further their careers, whereas only 10% study purely out of interest. The space between these two proportions narrows as students get older, and the figures for those in their forties are the same, at about 40%. Students aged over 49, study for interest, 70%, rather than for career reasons, less than 20%

In conclusion over 60% of students aged under 26 are supported by their employers; in contrast, the 30-39 age group is the most self-sufficient.
